How To Turn On Location Services On iPhone On A Per-App Basis
To turn on location services on a per-app basis doesn’t really require additional steps than what I mentioned above.
First of all, go through the above 3 steps and turn on the location services.
Just after turning it on, a list of all the apps which require location services will appear. From here, you can control which apps can use location services and which ones can’t.
You can either set it to Always or Never or only While Using the App.
In some apps, you’ll see only two options – Never or While Using the App. And in some, all the three.
Another interesting thing is that it also provides you with an explanation as in why the app needs access to your iPhone’s location.
Take the Camera app for example. It says – “Photos and videos will be tagged with the location where they are taken.”

How To Know Which App Has Recently Used Your Location
To answer this question let us, once again, take the example of the Camera app. Well, this time you don’t need to open it. You just have to notice a little arrow icon. In the below screenshot, the arrow can be seen next to ‘Camera’ but before ‘While Using’.
Now, what does that arrow mean?
For this, you’ll have to scroll all the way down.
- A hollow arrow indicates that an item may receive your location under certain conditions.
- A purple arrow indicates that an item has recently used your location.
- A grey icon indicates that an item has used your location in the last 24 hours.
So the grey arrow next to the Camera app indicates that the camera app used location services in the last 24 hours.
In the below screenshot, there is a purple arrow next to Siri & Dictation. That means Siri used my iPhone’s Location recently. Now it has become pretty self-explanatory, right?
There you have it. Not only do you know how to turn on the location services but you know pretty much everything about location services on iPhone.
