How to Unlock Bootloader on Motorola Devices?

Unlocking Bootloader is the first step towards advanced usage of Android. It opens the door to a whole new world of customization possibilities.

Want to install a Custom Recovery? Or want to Root your Phone? Or maybe you want to flash a Custom ROM?

All of these is possible only if you have an Unlocked Bootloader.

Before you go all crazy about unlocking bootloader, it is important that you first understand what exactly is bootloader and How to unlock bootloader?

Let’s begin

What is a Bootloader?

Whenever you switch on your Android device, a program starts running instantly which determines whether to boot into the Operating System or into the Recovery mode. And that program is called the Bootloader.

This bootloader is not just limited to a smartphone. Every device which runs on any Operating System has its own bootloader. It can be found on your PC or your Tablet.

Let’s take an example for better understanding. I have a PC with two different Operating Systems – Windows and Linux. I have set Windows as my ‘default’ Operating System. So whenever I power on my PC, the bootloader starts running and determines which Operating System to start.

That’s how it works for Android too but you’ll have to first unlock it.

Why is it locked?

Simple. Manufacturers don’t want you to mess up with your phone. They want that you use only that Operating System which came installed from the Factory.

Why do I need to Unlock Bootloader?

Unlocking bootloader is not a compulsion. Rather, it’s a choice.

It all on you whether you want to unlock the bootloader or not.

Unlocking Bootloader has its advantages. Like, you can install any Custom ROM that you want and get rid of that bloatware-full OS which came pre-installed. Or you can just Root your phone and start using Xposed Framework.
